National Honor Society
The Arenac Eastern Chapter of the National Honor Society inducts eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors each year based upon GPA (3.0 minimum overall), and the four qualities espoused as core values by the NHS: leadership, character, service, and scholarship. Each year, the chapter performs two highway cleanups along a three mile stretch of M-65 for its group service to the community, while individual members contribute twenty hours per semester of service work.
Member service work includes, but is not limited to: assisting teachers in their classrooms, working in nursing homes, teaching religious education classes, assisting in the preschool, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, yard work for the elderly or infirm, pitching in for school grounds projects, running stations at family fun nights, and tutoring students in need.
The NHS is also a partner with Hospice and MDA selling “Hearts for Hospice” and “Shamrocks” each year to raise funds for these worthwhile projects. In order to raise money for their annual induction ceremony, the group hosts a variety of fund generating activites.
The NHS is advised by Mr. Pauly. Current membership includes: Ashley Zobel (12) Crystal Wenkel (12) Gage Morgan (12) Kelly Ladach (12) Amanda Humerickhouse (12) Joseph Hollenbeck (12) Nicole Daniels (12) Autumn Spencer (11) Emily Fitzgerald (11) Teija Beaderstadt (11) |
