Drama ClubThe drama club at Arenac Eastern is noted for providing first class, quality theatrical entertainment to the community members in Arenac County. Membership is open to anyone with an interest and/or desire to learn. Students master the skills of applying makeup, set building, set decorating, procuring costumes and props, all aspects of producing a show, and some even get a chance to try their hand at directing as well. Past productions have included variety shows, serious dramas, uproarious farces, and even a musical! Assistance from the community and area businesses has proven to be consistent and generous. Seymour Carpet and Furniture of East Tawas has provided set pieces (including delivery and pick up) for years, while industrial arts instructor Craig Hahn and his crew (our own A.E. students) have never found a set design too complicated for them to handle. Even though she’s moved from our school, Shelley Card is still going the distance whenever the call is put out there. She, along with her erstwhile partner Kathy Bilacic, have provided everything from curtains to costumes at rock bottom prices (read: FREE!). Parental support has been an integral part of our success as well, as numerous rides, meals, and cookie donations have rounded out our successful productions. This year, the club is putting the finishing touches on two one-act plays under the direction of Mike Flore with an assist from Amy Huff. Saturday night, November 10th will see the curtain rise on the classic supernatural tale The Monkey’s Paw as well the comedic farce Midlife Dracula. Performance time on Saturday is 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, there is a matinee at 2:00 p.m. Come on out and enjoy the shows…you can see them both for just $4.00 per person. For more information on AE’s Drama Department please contact Barb Hunter at 867-4234 x1134 or Mike Flore at 867-4234 x1135.
